Argentine Air Force: AA Exercise in Tres Arroyos

"ORO" OPERATION 


It was developed in the Aeroclub de Tres Arroyos and involved more than 50 people from various units of the Argentine Air Force

In order to train the staff of our institution in the field of air defense, between 10 and 13 May, developed the "Oro" (Gold) 2010 Operation.


Involving staff from the Military Air Base (BAM) Mar del Plata, the Third Air Brigade (Reconquista), the Fourth Air Brigade (Mendoza), the V Air Brigade (San Luis) and the VI Air Brigade (Tandil).


Group I Air Defense Artillery belonging to the BAM Mar del Plata, leading unit of air defense, participated with a staff of 35 officers and noncommissioned officers who operated weapons systems Roland II, Skyguard fire director and 35-mm and and RH 20-mm cannons. 


Meanwhile, the VI Air Brigade was present with the 13th Antiaircraft Artillery Battery, consisting of 20 mm Oerlikon guns, the 6th Fighter Group participated with Mirage aircrafts and other units with ground personnel.


Due to logistical effort that brought about the deployment of means and the support of the task was extremely important to have airfield facilities and the collaboration of staff provided ongoing support.


During the exercise, the aircrafts simulated to attack the local airport, while being repulsed by the artillery, directed by Major Fabian Giaconi of the BAM Mar del Plata.


Such activities are frequently conducted at various airports in the country, allowing for training and improving of staff in charge of the national aerospace defense.


It is important to emphasize that no ammunition was used and only perform actions and monitoring progress of the aircrafts.


Upon completion of training different authorities were present: the mayor of Tres Arroyos, Carlos Sanchez, the head of the Sixth Air Brigade Commodore Enrique Amrein, head of Antiaircraft Artillery Group I of the BAM Mar del Plata, Commodore Marcelo Gigante and  local journalists who were covering daily practice.


Once again, keeping the spirit of camaraderie that characterized the gunner, the personnel involved showed great professionalism and ensured the success of the mission.
