The TNI AU Now Has a Special Unit for Missile Maintenance

MADIUN, KOMPAS.com - The more sophisticated development of primary weapons systems (defense equipment) must be followed by a qualified maintenance system. For this reason, the Air Force formed a 65 maintenance unit specifically to maintain missiles.

Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Yuyu Sutisna inaugurated directly the 65 Maintenance Unit at the 60 Deputy of Iswahjudi Field on Wednesday (12/12/2018) afternoon.

"Now the development of defense equipment is increasingly coming and getting more sophisticated. While the workload of the Maintenance Unit 61 is getting heavier, so for land and missile weapons separated, Sathar 65 is being formed now," Sutisna told reporters after inaugurating Sathar 65 at Depo 60 Lanud Iswahjudi.

Not only inaugurating Sathar 65, Sutisna also appointed Lt. Col. Tech Arie Santoso as commander of Sathar 65.

Sutisna said, the establishment of Sathar 65 to reduce Sathar 61's burden which has a workload of up to 140.15 percent.

It is feared that the excessive burden will result in a decrease in alertness and operational readiness.

"The Sathar 61 workload calculation is above 100 percent, 140.15 percent. So it must be separated so that it does not overload. Later there will be concerns that awareness will decrease and operational readiness will be low. Even though it is important to fly and work safety," Sutisna said.

Sutisna said, some of the missiles maintained by Sathar 65 were in the form of short to medium range missile weapons. He gave an example, maintenance of AIM-9 short-range missiles, Russian missiles, AGM missiles and AMRAAM missiles.

Sutisna added, the maintenance of all weapons owned by the Air Force was centered at Depohar 60 of Iswahjudi Airport.

At present, Depohar 60 has five units, namely 61 maintenance units, 62 weapons inventory units, 63 ammunition warehouse units, 64 maintenance units and 65 maintenance units.

Especially in Sathar 65, the team carries out corrective maintenance and repairs to air-to-air, air-to-land and land-to-ground missiles. It also includes repairing missile maintenance equipment. (Compass)

"The Maintenance Unit (Sathar) 61 is currently experiencing over capacity, namely reaching a workload of up to 140.15 percent. Therefore a new unit is formed so that the performance of Sathar 61 is better and optimal, "said Kasau.

Furthermore, Kasau said, the Indonesian Air Force's strategic development plan in 2015 until 2019 had the consequence of increasingly heavy tasks being carried out, along with the arrival of new armaments systems including combat aircraft and weapons such as AIM-9P-4 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, AGM -65 Maverick, Sukhoi R-73, RVV, Kh-29, Kh-30, QW-3 type ground-to-air missiles and various types of external stores, fighter planes and other terrestrial weapons.

"So far the Air Force has short-range missiles as far as in sight, in the future it starts using beyond visual range (BVR) missiles or missiles with a range of 30 km and above," Kasau said.

Kasau hopes that with the formation of Sathar 65 in charge of maintaining this missile, Depohar 60 works more professionally, effectively and modernly in supporting the readiness of TNI AU weapons so that operations and training tasks can be carried out properly and optimally.

Along with the inauguration ceremony, Kasau inaugurated Lt. Col. Tech Arie Santoso as Commander of Sathar 65 Depohar 60.

After the inauguration and working visit, Kasau and his entourage visited Sathar 65, the renovation of Mess Pringgondani and the Technical Squadron (Skatek) 042 Iswahjudi Madiun Airport.
