US Army retira aviones interesantes para el EA
US Army retira activos de vigilancia aérea

USA dona aviones ISR a Filipinas
US Donated ISR Aircraft to Help Patrol Vast PH Waters

MANILA - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will use the two US donated Cessna 208B "Caravan" aircraft, which are fitted with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), to patrol the country's vast maritime domains and borders, AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restito Padilla said on Wednesday.
In an interview, Padilla said the ISR aircraft could also conduct photo-recon missions along the country's coastal zones.
Padilla said the two planes, which will be formally turned over by the US government to the Philippines Thursday, were part of America's Maritime Security Initiative.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is expected to be in the hand-over ceremony in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City along with US Ambassador Sung Kim.
The Cessna 208B will also give the AFP the capability to detect ships and other craft intruding into the country's territorial waters quickly.
It can also be used to track down or locate lawless elements attempting to infiltrate in the Philippines' southern maritime borders.
The Cessna 208B has a cruising speed of around 170 knots and has a range of over 1,000 nautical miles and capable of transporting eight to nine persons, including the pilot.
Minus the ISR equipment and avionics, each of the aircraft is worth about USD2 milllion.

Caravans ISR para varios clientes

On 21 September, the US DoD awarded Cessna, a Textron company, a $24 million contract for six 208B GRAND CARAVAN EX aircraft, plus three spare Pratt & Whitney PT-6A-140 engines and associated spares and ground handling equipment to US Africa Command and Pacific Command Areas of Responsibility, to support counterterrorism capabilities in Cameroon, Chad and the Philippines.
Configured for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered by September 2017. The award follows two contracts concluded in May this year for modification of CARAVANs to an ISR configuration: $14.2 million to L-3 Communications – Communication Systems West, for ISR equipment and spares; $40 million to North American Surveillance Systems for aircraft modification and systems integration, training and field support.
Previous recipients of similarly modified aircraft to support counter-terrorism operations include Niger, Kenya and Mauritania (one aircraft each in 2014) and Uganda (two aircraft in 2015). Niger also received two CARAVANs in 2013, configured for transport tasks and donated by DoD, while Mauritania received an additional two in 2014 to assist in maritime crime prevention and counter-terrorist operations.
