Irak gasta 100 millones USD en UCAV turcos

Iraq to spend $100 million to buy Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2 drone – report

Esta Media Network

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq will spend around $100 million to buy Turkish Bayraktar TB2 UAVs from Turkey, a Russian newspaper reported.

Russian newspaper Pravda cited a Turkish source as saying that Iraqi authorities had decided to avoid the acquisition of Russian MiG-29 fighters.

“The Iraqi authorities have approved the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 UAVs totaling $100 million from Turkey,” a Turkish source told Pravda on Thursday.

“The UAVs will be used to protect mountainous and desert areas, especially on the Syrian border, where the situation has been unfavorable recently,” the source said.

Iraq intended to receive about 20 unmanned aerial vehicles from Turkey, the newspaper reported.

In August, Iraq’s defense minister Juma Inad said the country had “reached a consensus” with Turkey concerning the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 drone, according to Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak.

Inad also said Baghdad “intended” to purchase 12 T129 ATAK twin-engine, all-weather attack helicopters and sent a “request to buy” six of Turkey’s KORAL electronic warfare systems, the newspaper reported.

Iraq had repeatedly expressed its interest in potentially buying high-end Russian military hardware. It, however, didn’t take any solid steps to do so.

In 2020, a military inspector from the Iraqi ministry of defense said at Russia’s Army defense industry forum that Iraq might be interested in purchasing Russia’s fifth-generation Su-57 jet, Forbes reported.

The Iraqi government had also expressed its interest in advanced Russia S-400 or S-300 air defense missile systems in recent years.

Roketsan chief says Tunisia interested in guided bombs for UAVs

Tunisia and Indonesia are both interested in acquiring Roketsan guided munitions for their future unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to Murat İkinci, the Turkish company’s general manager.

“Countries like Indonesia and Tunisia, which are in search of unmanned aerial vehicles, have a high demand for the procurement of mini smart munitions MAM-L and MAM-C, the main weapon systems mounted on the Turkish UAVs,” İkinci said in an interview with state-owned Anadolu Agency (AA) on 18 October.

It was reported earlier this year that Tunisia had ordered six Anka-S systemsfrom Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), each with two UAVs. However, Africa Intelligence reported in September that the contract had been cancelled as Tunis could not find the funds.

The Anka-S is the version of TAI’s Anka family that has a satellite communications capability for beyond-line-of-sight operations. Roketsan’s MAM-L and smaller MAM-C laser-guided bombs have been integrated with the Anka.

These weapons have proved effective when used with the Bayraktar TB2, a smaller Turkish-made UAV, in Syria and Libya earlier this year. “Their usage in recent fights have changed the course of the operations in Turkey’s favour,” İkinci noted.

Earlier in January, Poroshenko announced that Ukraine signed an agreement to purchase Bayraktar TB2 armed UAVs from Turkey for the Ukrainian army. He stressed that the purchase of armed UAVs is part of a partnership program between Ukraine and NATO member states. Bayraktar TB2 has been used by the Turkish Armed Forces and Turkey's Security Directorate since 2015. The TB2 armed UAV was developed for tactical reconnaissance and surveillance missions and can also carry ammo, do assaults, and has laser target acquisition.

The Bayraktar UAV System has a cruising speed of 70 knots with an operational flight altitude of 24.000 feet, 24 hours of flight time and a communication range of 150 km and has a 12-m wing span, 650-kg maximum take-off weight and a 55-kg payload capacity. Prototype Development Phase started within 2007 based on competition model. Bayraktar Tactical UAS with its critical all subsystems including Flight Control, INS-GPS, Automatic Take Off-Landing systems developed in house demonstrated fully automatic taxi, take off, cruise, landing, parking phases in 2009 and was selected as the winner of the program. Final production stage officially started in 2012.

Based on the agreement in January, Turkish UAV manufacturer Baykar was to produce six Bayraktar TB2 and deliver them to Ukraine in a year. Along with the UAVs, three ground control station systems and equipment were also mentioned as scheduled to be delivered. Poroshenko said that the next step of the program is the creation of a joint Ukrainian-Turkish enterprise in southeastern Zaporizhia city of Ukraine that will produce components for modern unmanned technology.

As of January 2019, Turkish Armed Forces had a fleet of 75 Bayraktar TB2 platforms.
