CNEA designs fuel elements for nuclear reactors
Argentina reached a milestone in nuclear matter at the end of the first fuel element design for a PWR reactor

 

Innovation achieved by the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) is one more step to finalize the draft of the first reactor itself, wholly designed to be built in the country, known as CAREM (Argentinian Central Modular Elements).

With this innovation, our country ranks alongside the United States, France, Spain, Russia, Germany, Korea and Japan, powers capable of designing, developing and manufacturing a fuel for a PWR power reactor.

The fuel elements designed just be used in the reactor CAREM, whose prototype will be installed in Lima, Buenos Aires. So far, Argentina had only designed elements for research reactors and HWR, so the success achieved by the CNEA this time will strengthen the role of the country on the podium of the countries that do end in nuclear energy.

The design and engineering of this material were made by the group Fuel Element Design Bariloche Atomic Center. This team is dedicated to one project that has given momentum the agency in recent years: construction and commissioning of modular reactor CAREM.

CAREM reactor core  - whose progress had recently visited the Minister Julio De Vido - an innovative design and has been internationally patented.
