"Rio III" Exercise
It was developed in the 1st Air Brigade of our institution and participated a combined members of the Air Force of Argentina and Uruguay

In order to increase cooperation at the operational level of the defense aerospace, between 31 May and 4 June the exercise was developed Rio III.
On the first day, the commander of Air Operations for the Argentine Air Force (FAA), Brigadier Juan Alberto Macaya, and the 1st Air Brigade head Commodore Daniel Ruben Rodriguez, received the commander of the Uruguay Air Force (FAU) Air Operations Command, Aviator Brigadier General Daniel Olmedo, who arrived in our country aboard a C-130 Hercules, with the delegation of that force.
The co-director of the Exercise of the FAA, Commodore Gary Isaac, welcomed them and gave an exhibition which released the goals, mission and characteristics. All inspected facilities of the Unit and then shared a fellowship luncheon at the barbecue of the Brigade.
When the aircraft received the corresponding controls in the border area, started the "Rio III." FAA's Twin Otter and Seneca crews and FAU's Cessna 206 began irregular flights that should be intercepted.
The next day, they took out the same practices and joined a Dakota aircraft that departed from 1st Air Brigade. During the flight was the transfer of data in the border area of both countries and, once declared as illegal, were intercepted by IA-58 Pucara and Cessna A-37 aircrafts of the FAU.
The activities also took place on the ground, from the Ezeiza control tower controllers participated as observers two Uruguayans, one officer and one NCO, and Uruguay, two controllers and two Argentine pilots.
During the final day, the exercise was successfully concluded. The staff of the Argentina Air Force, together with Brigadier Macaya, moved to the 2nd Air Brigade, FAU's combat unit located in the department of Durazno. There were greeted by Aviator Brigadier General Daniel Olmedo and members of the FAU.
Colonel Jose Luis Visconti, co-director of the Office of the Uruguayan side, gave a presentation which elaborated on the developments during the four days. He also highlighted the goals accomplished: it was established and tested a system of cooperation and coordination to control irregular air operations in the border area of both countries were trained both forces personnel in such operations and close relations, shared experiences and common procedures were established in regard to supervision and control of airspace.
Both delegations shared a fellowship luncheon at the facilities of the 2nd Air Brigade and then the FAA personnel returned to the 1st Air Brigade of The Palomar.
